Martinlaakso Shopping Center is a challenge from urban atmosphere viewpoint. In this proposal there has been suggested infills for residential development of approximately 10,000 square meters to unify the dominant and extensive silhouette of the parking area with the rest of the urban landscape.
The proposed residential deck over the parking area creates potential for Martinlaakso, enabling a new level of movement and experience. The new silhouette rising above the shopping center would enhance Martinlaakso's image and bring surprise and vitality to the railway line in the form of new urban space.
Currently, the residential tower adjacent to Martinlaakso Shopping Center lacks a residential courtyard for residents, and the proposed deck solution would also allow for the addition of a courtyard for the tower's current residents. The implementation of vegetation and greenery on the deck structure includes proposed cultivation boxes and areas, providing urban gardening opportunities not only for residents of the block but also for other residents of Martinlaakso.
